"What can we do to improve our world?" would be a question that many would ask during the process of conceptualizing an idea. The basis for new technology and innovation is based off the needs of the world. We want to make things easier to do. We want things to be more accessible. We want things to go faster. These simple needs ultimately become one the strongest motivation factors that help yield amazing developments.
In the case of this Japanese futuristic restaurant, there is amusingly a combination of things people do not need and do need that helped influenced its creation. What people do not need are waiters. What people do need is faster service and easier accessibility to food and to paying. As you can see in the video, the restaurant do not have waiters to receive orders and deliver food. Instead a conveyor belt system delivers food from a location where cooks make the food to the customers. Customers have the option of choosing pre-made dishes or opt to order more specific, custom dishes. Once finished eating, the customers slide their dishes into a system that takes the empty dishes to its designated cleaning area and receive their checks based off the dishes they ate. Overall, the customers interact with a system run by machines and computers.
In reflection, the restaurant is more focused in serving their food and the customers have a unique and more convenient time eating. Everything has its starting point. As such, we can imagine how things can change in the coming years. We have automated restaurants now... will we have automated houses or automated malls? Time will tell, and hopefully we will be there to experience what is to come. For now, lets enjoy our sushi.
